Description

A calm open dish framed by two panels of curling foliage. This piece pairs a plain, gently dished rectangular basin with a pair of ornately carved end panels. The centre is deliberately smooth — a soft-cornered recessed tray with rounded, pillowed walls — while the left and right ends erupt into dense scroll-and-leaf relief: tight volutes, curling acanthus tendrils and teardrop accents, mirrored side to side. The contrast of quiet field against busy border is what makes it feel bespoke rather than mass-produced. Use it as a valet or catch-all tray for keys, rings and coins on a dresser, a rolling or trinket tray, a soap dish, or a decorative desk caddy. The blank centre also begs to be personalised — engrave a monogram, name or date into the open field. Making notes: • Route the pocketed centre with a flat or bull-nose bit, then switch to a fine tapered ball-nose for the scroll ends. • In wood, orient grain along the length so the thin border walls don't chip; hardwoods finish crispest on the fine tendrils. • As a 3D print, lay it face-up and print the shallow basin support-free; the scroll relief only needs a fine layer height (0.12mm) to stay sharp. • Seal with food-safe oil if it'll hold jewellery or sweets, or paint the border and leave the basin natural for a two-tone look.
