Radiant Sun Face Wall Relief

A calm celestial face crowned in a full circle of fire. Carved in low relief, this sun disc centres on a serene human face — heavy-lidded eyes, a straight nose and softly parted lips — wrapped in a double ring of rays. The inner band alternates sharp, dagger-straight points with loose, flame-like curls that ripple outward, lending the whole piece a sense of slow rotation even while it hangs perfectly still. It is a timeless motif: part garden-wall talisman, part folk-art icon. This one is built for the CNC router. Cut it into a hardwood blank for an entrance-hall feature, a patio plaque or a headboard centrepiece, or run it in HDU/foam for a lightweight painted piece. Carve notes: • Rough out with a 6 mm ball-nose, then finish the face and ray tips with a 1–2 mm tapered ball for clean transitions. • In timber, mind the pointed rays — plywood or MDF avoids splintering at the fragile tips. • Sand the raised face lightly and leave the recessed background textured for contrast; a dark glaze wiped into the low areas deepens the relief. • Scales comfortably from a 200 mm plaque up to a 600 mm statement piece.
