Framed Rectangular Valet Tray

A clean, empty rectangle with a raised lip and a smooth sunken floor — a blank canvas waiting for a purpose. There is nothing fussy here: a simple bordered rectangle, generously proportioned and wider than it is tall, with softly rounded inner and outer corners and a flat recessed base framed by a low rim. The restraint is deliberate. This is the kind of shape that becomes a valet or catch-all tray by the door, a drawer insert to corral small items, a sign or plaque base you engrave later, or a shallow display cradle for a phone, keys or coins. Because the floor is left flat and open, it is also an ideal ground for adding your own inlay, lettering or a carved motif before finishing. CNC notes • Pocket the interior with a flat or bottom-cleaning bit for a level floor, taking a light final pass to remove tool marks. • Break the top rim with a small chamfer or roundover so the edge feels finished in the hand. • Cut from a single hardwood slab and scale the outline to your stock; keep wall thickness sensible on the rim. • If it will hold food or be handled often, seal with a food-safe oil or hardwearing wax.
