Gothic Quatrefoil Tracery Screen

A square of cathedral window turned into fretwork — Gothic tracery pierced clean through. Within a plain raised border, this panel unfolds a fourfold symmetrical design: four teardrop-shaped pointed arches, one to each side, each cradling a carved trefoil clover, all woven together by looping ribs, flame-like tendrils and small crossed X motifs that fill the corners. At the centre the ribbons knot into a quatrefoil rosette. The negative spaces are cut right through, so light and shadow become part of the pattern. It's a versatile decorative piece — a cabinet-door or radiator-cover insert, a wall panel, a room-divider tile, a lantern face, or simply an ornamental screen that looks a treat when backlit. The medieval, ecclesiastical flavour suits both traditional and dramatic modern interiors. Because the design lives in the cut-outs, clean piercing is everything. CNC & print notes: • On a router, profile the through-pockets with a straight or compression bit in plywood, MDF or hardwood, then chamfer the inner edges for a crisper shadow line. • Leave the outer frame as your clamping and mounting margin. • For 3D printing, lay it flat and print the openwork in one pass — no supports needed for a through-cut panel. • Sand the pierced edges, then stain, paint or lacquer; pair with a translucent backing sheet and an LED strip for a stained-glass glow. • Tiles cleanly edge to edge if you want to run a repeating screen.
