Moroccan Star Lattice Panel

A ten-point star blooms at the heart of an interlaced Moorish web. This square fretwork panel is built on classic Islamic geometry: a central ten-pointed star radiates outward into a lattice of interlocking strapwork, smaller stars and kite shapes, all held inside a plain square border. The negative spaces read as fully cut through, so the piece works as a true screen — light and shadow do half the decorating. Rendered here in warm copper tones, it carries the symmetry and rhythm of Moroccan and Andalusian woodwork. As a routed panel it suits a wide range of jobs: a backlit wall feature, a radiator or cabinet grille, a room-divider insert, a headboard accent or a lantern face. Sized down it becomes a trivet or a decorative tile; sized up it tiles seamlessly edge to edge for a full screen wall. Cut notes • Designed as through-cut fretwork — pocket the field to zero depth or cut fully through a 6–18 mm panel. • Run a down-cut bit for a clean top face, and leave small holding tabs so the loose centres don't lift mid-cut. • Birch ply, MDF or solid hardwood all machine well; deburr the inner edges with a folded sanding strip or flap wheel. • For a lit version, back it with frosted acrylic and set an LED strip behind to throw the star pattern onto the wall.
