Description

Interlaced ribbons weaving between medallions — a framed relief with a distinctly ecclesiastical hush. Inside a stepped rectangular border, this panel carries a symmetrical composition of raised strapwork: smooth ribbon-like bands loop and cross over one another, threading between five circular medallions. Each medallion is a cross-in-circle — an equal-armed cross dividing the disc into quadrants filled with small carved leaf motifs — with one at the centre and one in each corner. The over-and-under weave and the roundel crosses give it a Byzantine / Romanesque / Celtic devotional character, ideal where you want carved detail with a solemn, traditional feel. The warm wood-tone render against black shows the rounded, hand-carved-look relief clearly. (The crosses are plain equal-armed forms, not rotational motifs.) Use it as an inset door or cabinet panel, a bed headboard centre, a church or chapel furniture detail, or framed as standalone carved wall art. CNC notes • This is a true 3D relief: rough out with an end mill, then run a finishing pass with a small tapered ball-nose to round the woven bands cleanly. • Watch the tight crossings where ribbons dip under one another — a fine stepover keeps those transitions smooth and avoids leaving fuzz in the valleys. • A tight, straight-grained hardwood (oak, beech, walnut) holds the crisp band edges best; softwoods tend to tear along the curves. • Orient the blank so the frame edges run with the grain, and finish with oil to deepen the shadows in the recesses.
