Flowing Wave Ripple Wall Panel

Wind moving across water, frozen in carved timber. This tall portrait panel is filled edge to edge with flowing, overlapping ripples that sweep diagonally down the face like drifting sand dunes or wind-combed hair. No two furrows run quite parallel; they bunch, splay and cross, so the whole surface shimmers with movement as light rakes over it. It is designed as a feature-wall relief. Mount a single panel as a vertical accent beside a door, run three side by side behind a bed, or set one into a cabinet door for a soft, organic contrast to hard joinery. The shallow, rounded ridges read beautifully in low-angled light and stay easy to dust. CNC notes • Carve with a tapered ball-nose bit; a 2-3mm ball gives smooth, glassy grooves. • A close stepover (8-10%) is worth the extra machining time here, since the flowing lines show every ridge. • Best in a tight, pale grain such as maple, birch or poplar so the shadows do the work; heavy oak grain fights the pattern. • Sand lightly along the flow rather than across it, then finish with oil or a matte lacquer to deepen the relief. • Scales freely, from a full door panel down to a jewellery-box lid.
