Description

A hypnotic vortex of faceted studs that seems to spiral straight into the wall. This panel is pure optical drama: a dense field of little pyramid- and diamond-faceted bumps, each catching light on one side and falling to shadow on the other, arranged so the whole grid twists and swirls into a spiralling vortex at the centre. Stand back and it reads as a rippling whirlpool; step close and it resolves into hundreds of crisp geometric facets. It is a decorative relief panel — flat-backed, with all the action on the front face. Cut large it becomes a statement feature wall or headboard panel; cut small it works as a coaster, a cabinet-door insert or a framed art tile. Raking light and a single directional lamp are its best friends — the deeper the shadows, the stronger the illusion. Paint it a flat colour to keep the eye on pure form, or drag a metallic drybrush over a dark base so the facets glint. Print notes (CNC) • 3D-carve with a tapered ball-nose bit and a tight stepover — the illusion depends on clean facet ridges. • Run a roughing pass first to save finishing time, given the deep relief. • Close-grained hardwood or dense MDF holds the sharp points; brittle stock will chip at the tips. • Back-light or side-light once mounted; a matte sealer stops glare from flattening the depth.
