Description

A rosette with the poise of a period ceiling. This is a fully round carved medallion built in tidy concentric rings. At the heart sits a small six-lobed flower with a tiny triangular centre; around it radiate six broad, veined petal-leaves alternating with slender darts, forming a crisp rosette. That centre is ringed by a fine beaded, rope-twist band, then a smooth cove, and finally a bold outer border of evenly spaced rectangular blocks — a dentil course that gives the whole disc a solid, architectural edge. It is the kind of ornament that dresses a newel-post cap, a cabinet-door centre, a furniture corner block, or a small ceiling rose. Cluster several for a coffered look, or mount one alone as a wall boss. Cut notes • Start from round stock, or cut the disc profile first, then carve — the symmetry means a single centred setup does the whole piece. • The valleys between the petals are deep and narrow; a tapered ball-nose reaches them without gouging the ridges. • The dentil blocks read best when their tops are left flat and only the gaps are pocketed. • Finish to 240, then stain or gild; a wiped umber glaze in the recesses exaggerates the layered depth.
