Winged Acanthus Scroll Appliqué

Mirror-image acanthus, unfurling like a pair of wings. This is a decorative appliqué — a flat-backed onlay carved in classic baroque foliage rather than the Celtic knotwork the code might suggest. Two large C-scrolls sweep outward from a central seed-like boss, each tail curling into a tight snail volute, while feathered acanthus leaves climb the spine and meet in a looped crest at the top. The whole design is bilaterally symmetrical and reads purely as a leaf-and-scroll motif — no figure, no lettering. Relief is medium-deep, the lobes rounded and hand-carved-looking, so raking light throws it into lively shadow. It is made to be applied, not stood alone: glue it onto a cabinet door, a headboard, a mirror or picture frame, a drawer front or a mantel frieze to age a plain surface into something Louis-XV or Georgian in a single step. On a CNC router this suits a 2.5D relief carve — rough with an end mill, then reach the tight volutes and leaf channels with a tapered ball-nose on a fine stepover. Cut it in a close-grain hardwood such as lime, cherry or walnut for crisp edges, or in MDF when it is destined to be painted. Resin captures the leaf veining best; on FDM, print it face-up and sand the flat back true for a flush glue joint. Finish with gilding wax, a limed white, or stain-and-glaze worked into the recesses to make the scrollwork pop.
