Description

A tidy square of carved foliage — the kind of little rosette that dresses up a cabinet door or a chair back. Within a stepped, bevelled frame sit four broad, lobed leaves, one springing from each corner and curling inward like fig or vine foliage, each with a deep central vein. Where they meet in the middle a small four-petalled flower blooms around a domed button boss, giving the panel a neat rotational symmetry. The whole thing is a classic decorative onlay: shallow enough to sit proud of a surface, generous enough to catch a shadow. Use it as an applied ornament on furniture — cabinet fronts, drawer faces, bed headboards, newel posts — or repeat it as a tile motif along a frieze. It also works as a standalone coaster-sized carved plaque. Print notes: • Machine face-up on the router; the square outer border already gives you clean registration edges for clamping. • A 2mm or smaller ball-nose bit for the finishing pass keeps the leaf veins and petal flutes sharp. • Close-grained timbers — beech, maple, pear, lime — carve the rounded lobes without tear-out; a light stain in the recesses pops the relief. • Printing in resin or fine-layer FDM instead? Lay it flat, no supports needed, and it makes a paintable moulding accent.
