Four-Arm Acanthus Cross Rosette

A classic carved rosette to dress up plain woodwork. This one lives up to its CNC billing: a symmetrical decorative onlay built as a four-armed cross of acanthus leaves. Each arm flares into scrolling, curled foliage with deep flutes and rolled tips, all radiating from a raised central boss scored into quartered petals. The relief is generous and rounded, throwing crisp shadows that give flat furniture and panels an instant antique richness. It is made to be applied: mount it on cabinet doors, a headboard, a fireplace surround, a mirror frame, a newel post or the centre of a coffered ceiling panel. Woodworkers and restorers will recognise it as the sort of appliqué you would otherwise buy in resin by the dozen. CNC / print notes: • On the router, carve in a hardwood or dense MDF with a ball-nose bit for the smooth leaf curves; a 45-degree V-bit pass sharpens the deep flute lines between the scrolls. • Leave a flat base tab so the finished onlay glues flush to its host surface. • For 3D printing, lay it face-up flat on the bed for a support-free print, then prime and paint or gild. • A dark glaze wiped into the recesses and buffed off the high leaf edges brings out the carving; a gold or antique-white finish reads as traditional moulding.
