Description

A single garden bloom, opened in wood and frozen mid-turn. RS 142 is a circular rosette medallion built around a stylised eight-petal flower. A smooth domed boss sits at the centre, encircled by a tidy ring of graduated beads, and from it radiate eight plump, pointed petals — each scored down the middle with a raised vein so raking light splits cleanly along every leaf. The flower is recessed into a shallow dished disc with a smooth raised outer rim, giving it the framed, cast-medallion look even though it is designed to be carved. It is the sort of ornament that lifts something otherwise plain: the centre panel of a cabinet door, the crown of a headboard, a mantel or a mirror surround, or a compact ceiling rose above a pendant light. Being fully symmetrical, it reads from any angle and tiles neatly if you want a matching run of them. Print & CNC notes • Machines beautifully in close-grained hardwood — maple, oak, cherry or walnut — with a roughing pass followed by a ballnose finishing pass for the rounded petals. • A fine tapered ball bit keeps the bead ring and central veins sharp. • 3D printing instead? Lay it flat, print face-up, and the domed relief needs no supports. • Takes wax, stain or gilding well; a dark glaze rubbed into the recesses makes the petals jump forward.
