Description

A soaring acanthus ornament that draws the eye upward. This relief is a vertical acanthus cartouche arranged on a tall diamond axis: a central oval boss sits at the crossing, and from it four sprays of scrolling acanthus leaves unfurl — the long top and bottom fronds rising to pointed tips, the shorter side leaves curling outward with tight, rolled hooks. Every leaf is deeply lobed and channelled so the carving throws strong light-and-shadow, giving it a rich, baroque, cabinetmaker's-flourish quality. It's a directional ornament, built to run up a stile, pilaster, headboard centre or mirror crest. On a CNC router it's a showpiece appliqué for hardwood furniture and architectural millwork; 3D-printed, it's a fast painted onlay for MDF cabinetry, frames and headboards. The elongated shape lets you pair it symmetrically top-and-bottom or mirror it left-and-right around a panel. Print / cut notes • CNC: rough with a flat end-mill, finish with a fine tapered ball-nose to reach into the leaf channels and around the central oval boss. • Cut from tight-grained stock (maple, cherry, lime/basswood) to keep the curling tips from chipping; leave onion-skin tabs and free by hand. • FDM: print flat back down, face up, 0.1mm layers, no supports; increase perimeters for a smooth top surface. • Glue to a sealed panel, fill the seam, then gild, lime-wax or paint-and-glaze for an antique carved-wood finish.
