Peony Bloom Round Medallion

A peony in full bloom, carved deep into a turned disc. The centrepiece is a lush, many-petalled peony — layer upon layer of ruffled petals folding down into a dense heart — flanked by long, flame-like leaves that sweep around the lower half in a graceful curl. It all sits inside a smooth, gently dished round border of concentric rings that frames the flower like a portrait. This is genuine high-relief work: the bloom stands proud of the plate while the leaves twist between low and high planes. It is a natural choice for a decorative wall medallion, a furniture centre-piece, a jewellery-box lid, or a ceiling rose with a botanical twist. Making it • Reserve this for a deep-carve CNC job or a fine resin print — the layered petals need real Z-depth to look right. • On the router, rough with a larger bit, then take a long finishing pass with a tapered ball-nose to reach into the petal folds; expect a slow finish. • For resin, orient the disc face-up at a slight tilt and support the outer rim rather than the flower to keep the petal edges clean. • A light wax or oil on timber, or a brown-into-cream drybrush on a print, brings the petal depth alive.
