Round Acanthus Rosette Medallion

A sunburst of curling leaves wrapped around a calm domed centre. This circular medallion sets a smooth raised disc — ringed by a fine stepped bead — at its heart, then surrounds it with a full wreath of acanthus petals whose tips split and roll back on themselves like tiny scrolls. Light catches the rounded lobes and drops into the carved channels between them, so the whole disc seems to turn slowly. It is fully radial, reading the same whichever way it hangs. Use it as a ceiling rose beneath a pendant light, a centre medallion on a cabinet or headboard, or a rosette crowning a mirror or door frame. Cut notes • Radially symmetrical, so it suits a rotary/4th-axis setup as readily as flat 3-axis carving. • Rough out first, then finish the leaf hollows with a tapered ballnose to reach into the rolled tips without gouging. • A denser hardwood such as beech or cherry holds the delicate curled edges better than softwood. • Seal before gilding or liming; a rub of dark wax into the recesses lifts the leaf detail against the pale raised centre. Scales cleanly from a small furniture appliqué right up to a large ceiling piece.
