Description

A square block of pure classical flourish, this carved rosette packs four fanning palmette leaves into its corners, each one curling inward with deep scrolled tips toward a domed central boss. The inner square frame is rounded and softly beaded, and the raised half-sphere at the heart catches the light like the pommel of a period cabinet. It is the kind of ornament that turns a plain door panel, drawer front or bed head into something that looks hand-carved by a joiner a century ago. Run as a relief carving on a CNC router, it suits hardwoods that hold a crisp edge — oak, walnut, cherry or a dense maple. It also machines cleanly in tooling board or high-density foam for a paint-and-gild finish. Carving notes: • Rough out with a larger ball-nose bit, then finish the scrolls and undercuts with a 2–3 mm tapered ball-nose for clean valleys. • The deepest cuts sit around the central dome; set your Z depth so the boss stands proud without undercutting the frame. • Sand the raised leaves lightly by hand; the fine ridges between petals are where a slow finishing pass really pays off. • Mirror and repeat the tile to build a matched set for cabinet corners or a coffered ceiling grid. Glue and pin to the substrate, then stain or gild to taste for a genuinely traditional look.
