Round Acanthus Petal Rosette

A round rosette that blooms outward from a single polished button. A domed central boss sits inside a raised collar at the heart of this medallion, and from it a double ring of rounded, tear-shaped petals radiates to the rim — alternating longer and shorter lobes so the surface ripples like an opening flower or a stylised acanthus rosette. A pair of stepped, concave mouldings frames the whole disc, drawing the eye inward and giving the piece real depth for its diameter. Rosettes like this are endlessly useful: mount one as a small ceiling rose beneath a light fitting, a corner block where door or window casings meet, a repeated motif on cabinet doors and stair newel posts, or simply a round wall medallion. Its perfect symmetry lets it sit comfortably in traditional and transitional interiors alike. Cutting notes • Turn or route it round first, or cut on a rectangular blank and trim the circle after carving. • Rough the petal field with a ball-nose, then detail the central boss and the grooves between lobes with a fine tapered bit for clean shadow lines. • The concave frame rings are easy to gouge — take a light finishing pass at a low stepover. • Paint, gild or stain to taste; the domed centre catches the light and anchors the design.
