Twelve-Petal Carved Rosette

A classic carved rosette: twelve rounded petals radiating from a domed central boss inside a raised ring. Each petal is scooped with a soft concave hollow and a gentle keel down the middle, giving the flower a plump, hand-carved look that catches raking light beautifully. It is the timeless furniture-and-architecture ornament, symmetrical, restrained and endlessly useful. Rosettes like this are the workhorses of decorative joinery: corner blocks on door and window casings, centrepieces on cabinet doors and drawer fronts, bedposts, ceiling medallions and mantel friezes. Cut a set in matching sizes and you lift plain flat-pack furniture into something that looks bespoke. Cut & print notes • For CNC in hardwood (oak, walnut, maple), rough with a 6mm end mill and finish with a 2-3mm tapered ball-nose to keep the petal hollows crisp; leave onion-skin tabs so it releases cleanly. • Size it to your casing first; it looks best when the outer ring just fits the stile width. • For FDM or resin, print flat and face-up: no supports needed, and the low relief sands smooth in minutes for painting or gilding. • Wax or oil real timber; on printed rosettes, a cream base with a soft antique-gold dry-brush mimics carved gesso.
