Description

An interlaced cartouche of scrolls and beads, symmetrical from top to toe. This vertical onlay is built entirely from looping C-scrolls that weave over and under each other around a central spine, punctuated by rows of round beads and capped at each end with a small fanned palmette. The silhouette is a tall, waisted lozenge — wider at the shoulders, drawn in at the middle — that reads like a length of forged ironwork translated into carved relief. It is ideal as a vertical accent: the stile of a cabinet door, the centre of a tall drawer bank, a bed headboard, a pier-glass frame or a stair-newel panel. Turned on its side it also drops nicely as a horizontal swag beneath a shelf. Cut / print notes: • The open loops create plenty of internal edges — for CNC, plan tool paths so a slender ball-nose can reach the scroll valleys, and clean the bead undercuts with a small tapered bit. • Prints flat, carved side up, with no supports; the bridging spans between scrolls are short and reliable. • Basswood, lime or maple hold the delicate detail best; avoid coarse open-grain timber that will blur the beads. • To sit it proud of a painted panel, print or carve it separately and glue it on rather than pocketing it in. Mirror or repeat it along a run and you get a coordinated set for a whole cabinet without any two pieces looking mass-produced.
