Acanthus Palmette Panel Onlay

Classic cabinetmaker's ornament, ready to drop onto a door or drawer. Framed inside a crisp rectangular border, this relief unfurls a symmetrical spray of acanthus and palmette leaves around a single rounded central boss. The blades sweep outward in mirrored pairs, long and veined top and bottom, plump curling lobes to the sides, all rising in smooth, deep relief from a recessed ground. This is a traditional furniture appliqué, the kind of onlay that dresses up the centre of a wardrobe door, a headboard, a fireplace surround or a plain kitchen cabinet. Sized down it becomes a jewellery-box lid; scaled up it reads as a small wall plaque in its own right. Cut and print notes • Lay it flat, decorated face up: no supports needed, and the layer lines follow the leaf contours. • The relief is shallow-to-medium, so a 0.2 mm layer height keeps the edges soft; drop to 0.12 mm for a display piece. • For CNC in hardwood, rough with a 3 mm ball-nose then finish with a 1-2 mm tapered bit to hold the veins and the central bead. • Prime and paint, or leave it bare and rub back the high points for an antiqued, hand-carved look.
