Description

One open rose, its petals curling back from a bristled heart. This carving is a single, generously cupped flower rendered in deep relief. Five broad petals open outward with soft, rounded lips, each one gently hollowed so light pools in the centre and catches along the raised edges. At the core sits a spiky seed boss, a cluster of short points and a rounded pip that gives the piece its lively, almost thistle-like focal point. The overall read is naturalistic rather than stylised, closer to a real garden rose than a flat geometric motif. It works as a centre-piece appliqué: think cabinet-door middles, drawer fronts, a bed headboard, mirror or clock surrounds, or a rosette to cap a newel post. Grouped or mirrored, several of these make a tidy repeating band. CNC / print notes • Cut as a relief in a close-grained hardwood such as beech, oak or walnut; a ballnose bit gives the rounded petals their soft roll, with a fine tapered or V-bit to sharpen the petal splits and the central spikes. • Run a roughing pass then a fine finishing pass; the boss benefits from a steep-angle finishing toolpath. • It also prints cleanly as a 3D onlay flat on the bed, no supports, ready to prime, paint or gild. • Glue-mount to the workpiece and sand the outer petal edges flush.
