Description

Four bold acanthus leaves unfurling from a smooth central dome. This carved rosette is built on simple fourfold symmetry: a plump hemispherical boss sits dead centre, and from behind it four large acanthus leaves sweep out to fill each corner of the square, their lobed edges curling and their surfaces channelled with deep flutes that run back toward the middle. The contrast between the polished round dome and the ruffled, leafy corners gives the piece a rich, tactile play of light. It is a versatile ornament for furniture and interiors - use it as a ceiling rose, a newel-post cap, a cabinet or door centre-block, or a repeating corner motif in panelling. The compact square format drops neatly into recessed frames and coffered sections. Print notes • Best cut on a CNC router in a carve-friendly hardwood like oak, maple or lime; the leaf flutes suit a ball-nose finishing pass after roughing. • The central dome needs true 3D finishing rather than a flat V-carve, so plan a fine stepover across the hemisphere to keep it smooth. • Symmetry makes it easy to rotate or mirror for matched sets across a piece of furniture. • As a 3D print it works as a glue-on appliqué - print face-up flat, no supports needed, then sand the leaf tips and prime. Stain the leaves a shade darker than the dome, or gild the boss alone, and the rosette reads as a genuine hand-carved detail rather than a machined blank.
