Acanthus Leaf Wreath Roundel

A carved wreath of curling acanthus, open at the heart. This circular roundel rings a bare central opening with a symmetrical procession of acanthus leaves — each frond furling into a deep scrolled eye, the tips lapping over one another to build a lush, layered garland. The repeat is mirrored around the circle so the piece reads balanced from every angle, with strong shadow lines where the leaves roll under. It is a classic decorative fitting: a ceiling-rose medallion around a light fitting, a furniture or door appliqué, a mirror or clock surround, or a raised centrepiece on a cabinet door. The open middle lets you frame a knob, spindle, cable drop or candle. CNC notes: • Cut as a 2.5D relief; a 4 mm ball-nose roughs the leaf masses and a 1–2 mm tapered ball defines the scrolled centres and vein splits. • Watch the inner ring — leave enough stock around the central hole so the delicate tips don't chip on the finishing pass. • Poplar and basswood machine cleanly for painted work; a hardwood suits a natural oiled finish. • Scale it to your fixture: small as a 120 mm appliqué or large as a 400 mm ceiling medallion.
