Pinwheel Rosette Relief Medallion

A rosette caught mid-spin. This CNC relief is a swirling floral medallion: two overlapping rings of long, comma-shaped petals rake around a smooth domed centre like a pinwheel frozen in motion. Each petal is scooped and tapered so light catches a bright ridge along its spine before dropping into deep shadow at the root — the kind of dimensional play that reads beautifully once a wood grain runs through it. It's a natural fit for furniture makers and sign shops. Drop it into a cabinet door, a headboard centre, a newel-post cap or a round ceiling rose and it instantly lifts a flat panel into something carved and considered. It works equally well as a standalone medallion on a plaque. Print notes • Carve as a 2.5D relief on hardwood — oak, maple, walnut and sapele all hold the crisp petal edges. • A tapered ball-nose bit on the finishing pass keeps the concave petal scoops smooth; leave a fine 0.3–0.5mm stepover. • The model is radially symmetric, so nesting several on one board wastes almost no stock. • Ease the sharp central dome with a light sanding to avoid burn marks, then oil or wax to pull out the swirl. Equally happy resin- or FDM-printed as a decor appliqué if you'd rather glue than carve — give it a mirror finish and it passes for cast plaster.
