Layered Daisy Rosette Medallion

A sunburst of overlapping petals, frozen the moment before full bloom. This relief carving stacks two tiers of long, tapering petals around a smooth domed centre, so the flower seems to lift straight out of its backing panel. Behind the front row, a ring of shorter pointed petals peeks through, and that overlap is what gives the piece real depth — the ridges catch light while the valleys drop into shadow, so it reads differently as the sun or a lamp moves across it. It's a classic daisy or aster rosette, the round applique used to dress the centre of a cabinet door, a headboard, a mantel or a mirror frame. Fixed to a plain surface it instantly lends a carved-by-hand, period air; run a row of them down a staircase string or across a kitchen island and a whole scheme suddenly hangs together. Print notes: • Best cut in relief on a flat blank; a 60-degree V-bit or a small tapered ball-nose gets crisply into the narrow valleys between petals. • If 3D printing, lay it flat on the bed with petals up — no supports needed, and a 0.12 mm layer keeps the petal ridges smooth. • Leave a little extra stock at the rim if you plan to sand a bevel or blend it into a larger panel. • Tight-grained timber (maple, lime, cherry) holds the fine petal tips; seal and wax for a soft, mellow sheen.
