Radiant Petal Rosette Medallion

A round rosette that opens like a many-petalled bloom around a fluted button heart. The relief is deep and confident: a fluted daisy-disc sits at the centre, its radiating flutes tightening to a small domed bead, and from it springs a symmetrical wreath of long teardrop petals and slender fleur tips. The layers are stacked so an outer ring of leaves peeks out between the inner ones, and the rounded, generous carving throws strong, definite shadows. This is a classic decorative rosette for furniture and interiors — a corner block for a door or window casing, the centre of a ceiling medallion, a bed-post or cabinet accent, or simply a standalone medallion for the wall. Print notes • The circular symmetry makes it a natural for a rotary indexer if you want it dead true, though a standard 3-axis carve handles the front relief perfectly well. • Rough with a 6mm end mill, then finish with a 2mm ball-nose to model the deep petal hollows and the fluted centre without step marks. • Pick a hardwood — beech, oak or cherry — for crisp central flutes, or MDF if the piece is destined to be painted. • Seal the end-grain down in the recesses before oiling so the finish doesn't blotch in the deep pockets.
