Description

Four scrolls chasing each other around a still centre. A square relief tile built on a rotational, four-fold pattern: bold ribbon-like scrolls spring from each corner and curl inward into tight snail whorls, weaving over and under a slim looping frame that pinches to a soft-cornered diamond at the very middle. The strapwork is broad and confident, the volutes deeply undercut, so raking light throws strong curved shadows across the surface. There's a satisfying tension between the busy, turning corners and the calm open diamond at the heart of the design. It is made to tile: butt several together and the corner scrolls meet to form continuous rosettes, ideal for a feature wall, a run of cabinet-door inserts, a coffered ceiling panel or a decorative headboard. A single tile also stands alone as a framed relief. Print / carve notes • Square and flat-backed — lay it face-up and it needs little or no support on a printer. • For CNC, a two-flute ball-nose handles the sweeping strapwork; drop to a fine tapered bit for the crisp inner spirals and the central diamond. • Keep depth-of-cut modest through the tight whorls to avoid tear-out in figured hardwoods. • If tiling, cut a test pair first to confirm the corner scrolls register cleanly before committing to a full panel.
