Layered Daisy Rosette Square Onlay

A burst of carved petals that turns a plain corner into something worth looking at. This is a square-format rosette built from two overlapping rings of long, tapered petals radiating out from a raised central dome. The front row of petals is broad and rounded; behind them a second layer of slimmer, pointed blades reaches into the corners, so the whole tile reads like a stylised daisy or sunflower caught mid-bloom. The deep, confident relief throws real shadow between the petals, which is what gives an applied ornament like this its presence on cabinet doors, bed headboards, newel posts, mantel centres, or a mirror surround. The square boundary means it drops neatly into panelled frames and repeats cleanly if you want a run of them. Cut it as a 3D relief carving with a tapered ball-nose bit: a roughing pass to hog out the deep valleys, then a fine finishing pass to round the petal surfaces and the central ball. Print notes: • Orient the flat back to the bed or spoilboard; the domed centre is the high point. • A 1.5 mm or smaller ball-nose gives clean petal transitions on the finishing pass. • Tight-grained hardwood (lime, cherry, maple) holds the petal tips without chipping. • A wash of dark glaze wiped back lifts the layered depth beautifully.
