Description

Two mirrored scrolls meet a jewelled diamond at the heart of this cartouche. RS 201 is a symmetrical ornament in the baroque manner: a pair of bold C-scrolls curl inward like a lyre, tipped with tight snail-shell volutes, while stacked acanthus-leaf fans flare from the top and bottom points. Dead centre sits a faceted diamond boss that catches the light and anchors the composition. The relief is rounded and confident, meant to be run under a hand across polished wood. It suits the centre of a cabinet pediment, a headboard crest, a mirror frame or a door panel where a little formal drama is wanted. Cut notes: • The rolled volutes want a ball-nose finishing pass; the deep valleys between scrolls may need a tapered bit to reach the bottom cleanly. • Cut in a tight-grained hardwood — walnut, cherry or maple — so the volute tips don't crumble. • Medium relief around 12–18 mm gives the scrolls their satisfying roll without undercuts the machine can't reach. • Sand the leaf tips by hand; that's where machine marks show most. Prints well too as a resin or FDM onlay for picture frames and restoration jobs where carving by hand isn't practical.
