Description

A square rosette that turns a corner block into a focal point. Carved as a four-fold flower inside a tidy square field, this rosette sends four broad, softly cupped petals out from a plump domed boss at its heart. Between the petals, sharp arrow-tipped leaves point straight out to the edges and corners, giving the whole tile a crisp radial snap. The relief is generous and deeply undercut, so raking light throws real shadow into the petal valleys and lifts that central ball right off the surface. Square rosettes like this earn their keep as the meeting piece where two runs of moulding collide: the corner blocks of a door architrave or window casing, the plinth blocks at the base of a jamb, or an applied medallion on a cabinet stile, newel post or bed frame. Because it is fully symmetrical it drops in at any rotation and always looks right. Cutting and printing notes • Deep relief with rounded petals: finish with a ball-nose bit for smooth flow, then a small tapered bit to sharpen the leaf points • Great in oak, walnut or beech; the four-fold form also demoulds cleanly for resin or plaster casting • If CNC routing, a 3D finishing toolpath along both X and Y hides the tool lines • Set the square edge just proud of the board so it reads as an applied block, and scale to match your casing width
