Description

A blooming rosette carved in deep relief — old-world woodwork you can rout in an afternoon. This CNC pattern is an ornamental flower appliqué: an oval medallion of long, tapering petals radiating in overlapping tiers from a raised central bud ringed by a small cup of inner leaves. The layering gives real depth — outer petals sink back while the middle rank stands proud — so under a router bit it reads as a soft, hand-carved bloom rather than a flat engraving. It's the kind of decorative onlay furniture-makers and restorers reach for: a centrepiece for a cabinet door or headboard, a corner flourish on a mantel, a rosette for a mirror frame, or a repeated motif down a pilaster. CNC & finishing notes • Rough out the field with an end mill, then finish the petals with a tapered ball-nose for smooth, rounded flutes and clean valleys between them. • Grain-rich hardwoods — oak, walnut, cherry — carry the relief best; keep a shallow stepover on the finish pass to avoid scallop lines. • The model also 3D-prints as a resin or FDM appliqué if you'd rather glue on a moulding than cut one; print face-up with light supports under the deepest undercuts. • Seal, then a dark glaze wiped into the recesses and buffed off the high petals really lifts the depth. Mirror or array it for symmetrical trim, or scale it down for jewellery-box lids and drawer centres. A versatile classical flourish for any workshop's ornament library.
