Layered Petal Flower Rosette

A full-bloom flower carved to catch a shaft of light. Two staggered rings of long, pointed petals radiate out from a smooth domed boss at the heart of this rosette. The under-layer peeks between the tips of the top layer, giving the flower real depth, and each petal carries a soft central ridge that throws a clean highlight when raking light hits it. The rounded ball at the centre lifts the whole ornament and keeps the eye anchored. This is a workhorse decorative appliqué. Use it as a ceiling rose, a corner accent on a cabinet or headboard, a rosette where stair balusters meet the rail, or a repeated motif along a mantel. Its symmetry means it sits comfortably in traditional and modern schemes alike. Print notes • Carve as a 3D relief; the petals need a tapered ball-nose finishing bit to keep those ridges and valleys smooth. • Orient with the domed centre as the high point and let stepover run fine on the finishing pass to avoid tooling lines across the petals. • Lovely in hardwood for staining, or machine in modelling board / tooling foam if you plan to prime and paint or take a mould. • Leave a flat back and a small margin around the base so it glues down flush against a panel or ceiling.
