Eight-Petal Flower Rosette Medallion

A tidy round bloom set into its own recessed disc, the workhorse of classical joinery. The carving shows a plump eight-petal flower with a smooth ball at its heart, each petal fat, rounded, and grooved down the centre. Behind the front bloom a second ring of shorter pointed leaves peeks out, and the whole flower sits sunk into a stepped circular frame with a plain raised rim, so it reads like a jewel dropped into a dish. This is the quintessential rosette block, the piece that caps a window casing corner, finishes a pilaster, or dots a stair bracket and cabinet frame. Its compact circular footprint makes it easy to place and repeat, and the deep bowl around the flower gives it satisfying shadow at any size. Carved as a round applied medallion, it mounts flat and dresses up an otherwise plain moulding junction in seconds. Print notes: • A true 3D relief job: rough the recessed ring first, then finish the petals and centre ball with a small ball-nose. • Keep the flat back true so it seats flush against the moulding. • Beech, cherry, or dense hardwood holds the rounded petal edges best. • A dark glaze wiped into the recessed ring makes the central flower jump forward.
