Domed Boss Square Rosette Appliqué

A plump baroque rosette that bulges off the panel like a cushion. Everything about this square ornament is soft and pillowy. A domed central boss sits inside a raised ring, and from it four X-shaped ridges run out toward the corners. Four fat spherical beads are set at the mid-point of each edge, and the whole tile is framed by fleshy, scalloped leaf lobes that curl and flick at every corner. The relief is high and rounded, so it reads as a rich, tactile knot of ornament rather than a flat carving — the sort of boss you would set into a furniture corner, a door panel, a mirror frame or a bed head. Because it is fully symmetrical it tiles and mirrors effortlessly across a piece. CNC & print notes • The domes and beads want a ball-nose finishing pass for smooth, blemish-free curves; a roughing pass first will save time on the deep relief. • Carve from a close-grained hardwood, or print a master and cast it in resin/composite for repeat runs. • On FDM, print face-up with fine layers and add light supports under the curling corner lobes where they overhang. • Rounded surfaces reward patient sanding before finishing.
