Layered Petal Floral Rosette

A generous carved rosette built up in layers, like a stylised camellia caught mid-bloom. Five broad, rounded lobes form the outer flower, each scooped into a deep petal with a single incised vein down its middle. Nested inside sits a smaller ring of shorter petals, and at the very heart a domed button rises with a faceted bud at its tip. The symmetry is soft rather than mechanical, and the scooped hollows throw crisp shadows that make the whole medallion look plumper than it is. It is a decorative appliqué — the kind of ornament that goes at the centre of a cabinet door, the corner of a mirror frame, a bed headboard, a newel post, or as a small ceiling rose. Screwed or glued on, it instantly dresses up a plain flat surface. Print / cut notes: • Symmetrical 2.5D relief — rough the outer lobes, then finish the petal hollows and the domed centre with a tapered ball-nose for smooth transitions. • Cuts well in a tight-grained hardwood; also casts cleanly if used as a resin master. • On FDM, print face-up flat-backed so the petal undercuts need no supports; leave a flat rear for gluing. • Prime and gild, or wipe a dark wax into the recesses over a limed base, to match antique furniture mounts.
