Spiral Petal Rosette Onlay

A little whirlpool of petals caught mid-spin. This carved rosette arranges a dozen broad, scooped petals in a pinwheel spiral, each one overlapping the next so the whole flower seems to rotate around its hub. At the centre sits a raised ring cradling a smooth domed button, a neat full-stop to all that motion. The relief is generous and rounded — deep petal hollows and soft ridges — so it throws lively shadows under angled light. It is a classic furniture ornament: a corner block for door and window casings, a plinth-block accent, a drawer-front centrepiece, or a ceiling-rose-style medallion. Symmetrical and self-contained, it drops neatly into all kinds of joinery and cabinetry. Cut / print notes • A clean two-stage CNC job: rough with an end mill, then finish the scooped petals with a ball-nose for that smooth swept surface. • It machines happily in oak, beech, walnut or paint-grade MDF; keep the finishing stepover tight to avoid tool marks in the hollows. • Printing it instead makes a fast appliqué — lay it face-up, support only the back, and glue the finished rosette to your piece. • Dome the back if you want it to sit proud, or cut a shallow rebate in the host timber for a flush inlay.
