Description

A four-petal acanthus bloom carved to catch raking light. This square decorative applique is a symmetrical rosette: four broad acanthus leaves unfurl from a smooth domed centre boss, their tips curling into tight snail-shell volutes at each cardinal point while long fluted lobes sweep out into the corners. The relief is deep and confident — high crowns, undercut shadows and softly rounded edges that read as hand-carved oak even before a drop of finish goes on. It is built to work as an onlay ornament for furniture and joinery: cabinet doors, drawer fronts, a headboard centre, a fireplace surround, mirror frames, or a plain door panel that needs a focal medallion. The tidy square footprint tiles neatly and sits comfortably beside plain stiles and rails. Print notes • CNC: cut in a close-grained hardwood (oak, beech or lime) with a tapered ball-nose bit for the flowing lobes; a small 2mm stepover on the finish pass keeps the volutes crisp. • The centre dome and the curled corner volutes are the deepest cuts — plan your Z-clearance and leave onion-skin tabs so the blank doesn't shift. • FDM or resin also suits it: print flat and face-up with no supports; a light sand plus a brown glaze or gilt wax sinks beautifully into the recesses. Shrink it for a jewellery-box lid or scale it right up for a statement ceiling rose — the motif holds together at almost any size.
