Domed Four-Petal Rosette Onlay

A four-point bloom with a sunlit dome at its heart — geometry and petal softness in one tidy boss. Four long, lance-shaped petals radiate in a cross, each a raised almond with a crisp central ridge and bevelled edges that catch the light. Tucked into the diagonals between them sit four plump teardrop petals, rounder and fuller, and at the very centre a smooth hemispherical dome swells up like a pearl. The whole piece is compact, symmetrical and self-contained — a decorative rosette or boss meant to mark a centre point. Furniture makers reach for pieces like this on cabinet-door centres, drawer fronts, the four corners of a coffered ceiling panel, or capping a newel post. Because it is radially symmetric it tiles and repeats cleanly. Print notes: • Flat back, so carve or print dome-up on the flat face with zero supports. • The valleys between petals are deep and narrow — use a small ballnose (2–3 mm) or a fine nozzle so they do not fill in. • On CNC, a finishing pass along the petal ridges keeps the almond edges sharp. • A strong candidate for a two-tone finish: paint the recesses dark, then sand the raised petals back to bright wood or metal.
