A sunburst of plump carved petals blooming out from a single domed heart. This CNC relief is a round rosette medallion: roughly fifteen smooth, teardrop-shaped petals radiate from a raised central boss, each swelling to a rounded tip as it reaches the circular edge. The cut is soft and convex throughout — no sharp veins or undercuts, just gentle pillowed lobes — which gives it that warm, hand-worked look you see on cabinet doors, bed headboards and furniture centres. It's a versatile decorative appliqué for furniture makers, sign carvers and restorers who want a tidy circular accent. Machined small it works as a drawer or door rosette; scaled up it becomes a ceiling boss or a focal medallion on a panel. CNC notes • This is a single-sided relief — machine it face-up into a flat blank. • A roughing pass with an end mill, then a ball-nose finishing pass, keeps the pillowed petals smooth; tighten stepover in the finish for crisp valleys between petals. • Close-grained hardwood (oak, maple, cherry) or dense MDF holds the rounded edges best. • Sand lightly along the petal ridges and seal before staining, since the convex faces catch the eye and any tool marks show. • Mirror or array the toolpath if you need matching rosettes for a set.
