Allegorical Laurel Nude Panel

An allegorical nude carved in the grand decorative-panel style. This CNC deep relief depicts a seated female figure, unclothed, one arm raised overhead to hold aloft a leafy laurel branch, the other resting on her hip. Behind her the composition is dense with ornament: large rolled art-nouveau scrolls frame the upper corners, a coursed brick wall with a stepped ledge fills the mid-ground, and a fanned, layered base spreads beneath the bench she sits on. The modelling is soft and rounded with strong high-to-low depth, the classic look of a carved hardwood feature panel. It is intended as a statement wall panel for CNC carvers who work in the classical and figurative tradition. Carving notes: • Deep 3-axis relief: allow plenty of Z travel, rough with a large bit, then finish the skin, laurel leaves and brickwork with a fine ball-nose. • A close-grained hardwood such as lime, cherry or walnut holds the facial and drapery detail best. • Work the tight scrollwork and leaf gaps with a slender tapered ball-nose to reach into the recesses. • Finish with oil or wax to deepen the tonal contrast between the raised figure and the recessed ground. • Scale generously so the fine ornament and features remain readable after finishing.
