Description

A belly-laugh carved in relief — the unofficial patron of every good alehouse. This panel depicts a rotund, bare-chested reveller sprawled against a stout wooden cask. One hand props up his cheek while the other hugs an oversized, dimpled tankard of ale; his face folds into a broad, whiskered grin, eyes squeezed shut in pure contentment. A loose cloth drapes across his crossed legs, bare toes splayed, a curl of chest hair adding to the earthy folk-art humour. The barrel lies on its side at the base, its staves and hoops giving the composition a solid horizontal anchor. It is modelled as a deep bas-relief, meant to stand proud of a flat backing board. It makes a natural centrepiece for a home bar, brewery taproom, man-cave or games room, and lands well as a gift for the committed beer lover. Hang it as a plaque or mount it above a door as a jovial topper. Print & carve notes • On a CNC router, cut in a warm hardwood — oak, iroko or walnut — to flatter the rounded belly and stein. • Rough with a large end mill, then finish the face, moustache and barrel staves with a fine tapered ball-nose bit. • If resin or FDM printing, lay it flat on its back face: no supports, 0.1mm layers to keep the grin sharp. • Rub dark wax or oil into the recesses so the smile and cask detail read from across the room.
