Viking Knotwork Shield Medallion

A Viking round shield, boss and all, in warm carved relief. This disc recreates a Norse warrior's shield: horizontal planks banded across the face, a raised domed boss dead centre faceted like a rough-cut gem, encircled by a band of interlaced Celtic knotwork, and a scatter of dome-headed rivets marching around the rim inside a thick rolled edge. The plank grain and the knot ring are cut deep, so the whole design reads instantly even from across a room. It works as a wall medallion, a coaster or trivet blank, a shield for a larger figure, a fridge magnet, or Norse-themed party and cosplay décor. Scale it up and it becomes a handsome hanging plaque. Print notes: • CNC-carve in oak or ash to lean into the plank-and-iron look; the knotwork band wants a fine bit and a small stepover. • 3D printing? Lay it flat, boss up — no supports needed, and the domed centre comes out smooth. • Paint recipe: a brown wood-wash over the planks, silver or pewter on the boss and rivets, then a black wash to sink the knot lines. • Enlarge for a wall piece or keep it coaster-sized; add a keyhole slot on the back for hanging.
