Description

A proud eagle rising from a body of overlapping scales. This carving is a striking eagle finial: a finely-detailed bald eagle head — hooked beak, deep brow, sharp eye — crowning a tall, tapering body that's completely clad in an overlapping diamond feather-scale pattern. The whole form swells gently outward then narrows to a rounded base ringed with a scrolled wave-and-chevron border. It has the presence of a newel-post topper, a trophy centrepiece or a mantel ornament, blending a naturalistic raptor head with an almost pine-cone-like textured shaft. It's a natural fit for CNC woodworkers turning out staircase finials, flagpole toppers, patriotic display pieces and carved décor, or for 3D-print makers who want a bold bird ornament to paint in bronze or weathered stone. Print notes • CNC: this is a job for 4-axis or rotary machining given the fully-wrapped scale texture; a 3-axis mill will need front/back setups and careful re-registration. Rough with a ball-nose, then a fine finishing pass to define each scale. • Choose a tight-grained hardwood (maple, cherry) so the scale edges stay crisp; the base scrollwork wants a small-diameter bit. • 3D printing: orient upright and resin-print for the feather detail, or FDM at 0.12 mm with supports only under the beak. • Finish with a gilt or antique-bronze rub to lift the layered feathers.
