Description

A memento mori balanced on a column of spun, twisting flutes. This model stacks a realistically modelled human skull — hollow eye sockets, nasal cavity and a full row of teeth — on top of a slender, spindle-shaped body wrapped in deep diagonal spiral fluting. A short ribbed collar bridges skull and body, and a matching twisted knob forms the little foot at the base, so the whole piece reads as one carved finial or gothic ornament. The twisting flutes catch light and lead the eye upward to the skull, giving it a hypnotic, candle-flame swirl. It is a natural centrepiece for Halloween displays, a gothic or witchy shelf, a tabletop RPG shrine, or a curiosity cabinet — and it works printed as a solo statue or as a repeating finial for railings and props. Print notes • Print upright to keep the spiral fluting symmetrical; the small twisted foot gives a stable base but benefits from a brim on FDM. • The skull's jaw and eye sockets carry overhangs — resin with light supports under the chin renders the teeth crisply; on FDM a 0.12 mm layer keeps the face readable. • Vase-mode is tempting for the fluted body, but a solid or lightly-infilled print holds the skull's weight far better. • Prime and drybrush bone-white over a grey wash to sink shadow into the flutes and sockets for an aged, carved-ivory finish.
