Serpent Head Cane Handle

A scaled serpent rears over the top of a walking cane. This is a sculpted handle in the form of a snake's head, its scaled neck arching forward and curving down over a smooth turned collar so the whole grip sits like a question mark. The modelling is richly textured — overlapping scales run the length of the neck, tightening to fine plating around the snout and a lidded, watchful eye — while the stepped cylindrical base below is left smooth to seat onto a shaft or dowel. It reads as a serpent poised mid-strike, tactile and comfortable to close a hand around. It is aimed at custom walking sticks and canes, but the same head works as a newel-post finial, a drawer or cabinet pull, a staff topper or a standalone display carving for reptile and fantasy fans. Cut notes: • This is a deep, in-the-round form best suited to 4th-axis / rotary carving or a two-sided cut with an indexed flip; a flat 3-axis pass captures only one face. • Rough with a ball-nose, then finish the scales with a 1–2mm tapered ball to keep each plate crisp — the scale texture is what brings it alive. • Dense hardwoods such as walnut, maple or beech hold the fine snout detail; protect the eye and jaw against tear-out on brittle grain. • Match the base diameter to your cane shaft before cutting, and a dark glaze rubbed into the scales makes them stand right out.
